K - 2 Grades - Education Concert

Explore key emotions through music, visuals and movement in this interactive program for our youngest audience.  Music has the ability to help us express different moods and we want to know how!  Using Edward Elgar’s famous Enigma Variations and other musical examples by Mozart and Beethoven we will see how tempo, dynamics, meter, tonalities and instrument choices can all help a composer express moods and feelings.  Using literary sources as inspiration as well as your students’ artwork we will also see how other arts can do the same thing through their unique tools!  Come join us for this multi-media experience.

Selfies have always existed even before technology allowed us to take our own pictures.   We had music, literature and visual arts to help us capture our own image and show what was important to us.  This interactive, multi-media program explores “selfies” throughout time from the Renaissance through to modern day, using music from each period to help understand musical forms, eras of music writing, and the instruments of the orchestra.  The music of Gabrieli, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, Stravinsky and others will be paired with visual images from the same time periods.  Copland’s Lincoln Portrait and our very own BPO selfie will complete the journey through time.
